so last night allen and i were watching the oprah show about hurricane katrina. i really do think that george bush doesn't care about black people. or any people, really, that aren't himself. i also watched the daily show this morning when jon stewart RAILED on the president, and it was pretty funny, but it made me even more mad.
allen and i both really wanted to go down there to help out. but he can't get off work. however, they are housing people at the tinley park mental health center. http://www.sspads.org/HurricaneKatrinaEffort.html anyone want to volunteer with me on sundays?

so.
laura found out that she got into teach for america. i get a generic message that says thanks for applying, still. i'm pretty sure that means i didn't get in. but i am kind of happy about that. because even though it would be financially advantageous to have gotten in, i was really kind of not wanting to do it. but i didn't want to choose to do it out of financial necessity. and teach for america just made the decision for me. although moving would have been expensive. at least i have a job for this coming year. i don't have to worry about losing my awesomely cheap apartment. instead of doing homework at my job, i could begin researching graduate/law/culinary schools like a madwoman. i could even try to apply for teach for america again, but the thing is, i heard that it's not for people who actually want to be teachers, and i actually kind of want to be a teacher. oh yeah! i could travel. this won't be so bad at all . . . it will give me more time to try and figure out what i am going to do with my life. and more time to try and get out of debt. i think it will be juuust fine.
